Queensland police said ”several” victims were told the bank worker would collect the cash from their home, claiming they would safeguard it from being stolen.

They’re told it will then be put it in a “safe account while internal investigations identify their own employee who is stealing”.

In one alleged instance, someone called police in June saying their bank had instructed them to withdraw $10,000 cash.

That afternoon, police arrested a 43-year-old man from Ngunnawal in the ACT at the victim’s house.

He has been charged with three counts of money laundering and one count of possessing tainted property.

He was remanded in custody to reappear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 15.

Investigations are continuing.

Police said bank customers should be wary of any calls asking them to pay funds or deposit cash, and check with the bank via their official number before doing anything.
