Scams are still ongoing, and with all the new technology sometimes simplifies the goals of the scammers, to part you with your bank account information and your money. Below are a few of the recent scams that are being reported. Never give out any personal information by phone or email unless it is a proven valid website or phone call initiated by you to the correct entity. 1) Mortgage Settlement Scams Idaho’s Attorney General is warning consumers of a new scam related to the recent multistate mortgage servicer settlement.

Reports have been made of phone calls and emails from scammers asking for the consumer’s bank account number. Some callers have reportedly posed as bank employees or as third-settlement administrators.

2) Tax scam alertsFalse emails from tax software companies that try to get you to disclose your social security number. Don’t do it. It is a phishing scam or virus download that may steal your personal information.

3) Telephone scams, lottery scamsMany scammers successfully convince their victims to send a check to claim their prize. Following are some common scams that have made the rounds in one form or another:

  • Someone sends you a check and asks you to cash it and wire back a portion of the funds.
  • A caller claims to be your grandchild who is in trouble and needs you to send money right away.
  • A caller announces you have won a big prize. All you have to do is send a check to claim your prize.

4) The “Grandparent” scam

The scammer calls and simply says “Hi grandpa, it’s me”. You then confirm “Billy”? Or, someone calls and says your grandson has been arrested and need bail money. Don’t do it without confirmation. This scam is becoming more prevalent.
