More than 3,000 scams have been reported over the last month, including many in Cambridgeshire

People have been Cambridgeshire after dozens became victim to password scams in recent months. Police in the county say they’ve had 57 reports of people who have fallen for people claiming to be from their bank,

Officers say that fraudsters have called or texted people up and down the county in recent weeks pretending to be their bank or another organisation. They then ask for their passcode so they can make a fake transaction.

Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “As irritating as they can be when you’re trying to complete a transaction, these passcodes – which are usually sent to your mobile phone via text message – provide a vital defence in the fight against fraud to ensure thieves and scammers can’t make purchases with your card details.
